Pastor Dennis Shaw


Shaw2Pastor Dennis has been in ministry with the Rocky Mountain Conference since 2000 in a variety of appointments including Associate and Youth Pastor at Trinity United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs and Senior Pastor at Stratmoor Hills United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs. In 1994, he retired from the United States Army as a Lieutenant Colonel.

He is married to Marilyn White and between them, they have four grown children. He has a Bachelor's degree in Music, Masters Degrees in Business Administration and Divinity, and received his Doctorate of Ministry from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC in May, 2012. Pastor Dennis came to Hilltop on July 1, 2012.



Leigh Anne Duff - Administrative Assistant


DuffA life-long Methodist, Leigh Anne has been a member of Hilltop since October of 2000. Leigh Anne majored in Foreign Languages at Rhodes College in Memphis. She was named Administrative Assistant at Hilltop in November of 2010. Leigh Anne’s professional background was in radio and advertising. Her other activities include a passion for music and the theatre. She is a flutist in the Murray Concert Band and the Herriman Community Orchestra, and also has played clarinet and saxophone in pit orchestras in Herriman and South Jordan. She is a member of the Herriman Arts Council and manages all their graphic design and advertising. The Duff family loves living in Herriman with their two dogs Dharma and Geordi.


Roberta Shimensky -  Director, Music & Arts Ministries


RobertaRoberta is currently Music Director and Organist at Hilltop United Methodist Church, where she leads the Chancel Choir and the Hilltop Gospel Choir. She was formerly on faculty of Westminster College as conductor of the Westminster Women’s Choir, Westminster Singers, Westminster Chamber Orchestra, and instructor of piano. Career highlights include: Assistant Conductor/Pianist, Kennedy Center Imagination Celebration of Salt Lake, world premiere of Libby Larsen’s opera Dreaming Blue, 2002; Conducting Fellow, Dennis Keene Choral Festival 2000-03; guest conductor, Salt Lake Symphony; Utah Opera Chorusmaster, Madama Butterfly, 2001; member, Utah Opera Chorus; performances as keyboardist for the former OPUS Chamber Orchestra and Salt Lake Symphony; accompanist for Utah Opera’s “Opera-in-the-Schools.”


Kara Hefley - Director, Mother's Morning Out and Children's Ministry


KaraKara Hefley is the director of the Mothers Morning Out Ministry at Hilltop.  She started out as a teacher for the program in 2006 and stepped in to the Director position in September of 2009.  Kara has an associates degree in Sociology with an emphasis in early childhood development.  She loves children and spent several years as a nanny before starting her family.



Jon Collins - Youth Ministry Director

Collins "Jon has lived in Utah since he moved here from Mississippi at the age of ten.  He has worked with kids at Hilltop almost ever since; helping with Sunday School and Children's Church since middle school.  He has a bachelor's degree in history with a minor in religious studies from the University of Utah.  Jon loves to work with kids and has worked as a tutor in the Canyon's School District since fall 2012.  When he's not doing that he enjoys playing the banjo and reading everything he can get his hands on."


Kathy Wheeler - Treasurer


KathyKathy is from the Finger Lakes region of New York state.  She has a degree in Business Administration from Binghamton University.  She has previously worked for Carrier Corporation in Syracuse, NY and Salt Lake City.  After working in Orlando, FL and East Hartford, CT she retired to Utah in 2006.  She has been active in the Chancel Choir, UMW, and Intermountain Singles group.

Kathy has an MBA from New York Institute of Technology and an MA in Religious Studies from Hartford Seminary.

Since last August, she has had the pleasure of having her father living with her and her cat, LucyFur.


Carrie Wetzel - Chancel Choir Accompanist

Carrie Anne PianoCarrie Wetzel has been playing the piano since the age of four.  She holds a bachelor of music degree (with an emphasis in piano performance) from the University of Utah.  She also holds both a bachelor of science and masters degree in elementary education.  She spends her days teaching fourth graders, whom she loves! Ever since she was little, Carrie has been a member of many of the choirs at Hilltop.  She has been the Chancel Choir pianist for the past six years.  When not playing the piano, she also likes to sing and play the violin.
